Default 2000 volvo s40 lighting issue

i recently purchased an s40 from my brother for next to nothing and it had a bad headlight switch come to find out its almost $300 for a neww one so for now i wired in a toggle switch for my headlights but when i turn the toggle off as in i turn tthe headlights off my tail lights and other position lights (the litthe lights by the rear fender) turn on and stay on when the ignition is off, however if i turn the toggle back on then all the lights turn off (when the ignition is off) is this just a problem with my wireing ir does that sound like an cem (central electronics module) problem?

Sounds like you have the light switch wired for parking lights. There is no off position on the normal light switch. The top and bottom positions are both on. The difference is whether the lights stay bright when switching to bright lights or whether they just flash bright and go back to dim when using the column mounted stalk. The middle position is for parking lights.
