Another Lighting Question 2001 s40
hi guys,
while i'm fooling around with the LCD bulbs in the radio as described in my previous post, i noticed that i don't have any illumination on the switch panel that controls the headlights, dimmer, and fog lights. the only thing that lights is the green light when the headlight switch is in the middle position. Other than that, nothing.
i pulled the panel off, disconnected the wire harness and there are 3 bulbs in the circuit board. all of them are OK when tested out of the circuit board.
i noticed that there are 12 pins on the circuit board where the wire harness connects, BUT there are only 11 wires in the wire harness itself. there is a pin in position #4 that does not have a corresponding wire in the harness.
is it possible that the missing wire to pin #4 is the one that supplies power to the lights?
if so, is there a fix for this?
i've had the car for 7 years, and i just can't remember if i ever had illumination on this panel...
thanks for any help!!

on my 04 first gen S40 there are no illumination on these at all, just the green telling you that the parking lights are on. so this is a normal function of the car. hope this sets you at ease.
hi and thanks.
it doesn't really set me at ease because there are 3 bulbs on the circuit board. why would they put the bulbs there if the panel isn't supposed to be illuminated?
thanks again.

hi, any thoughts on this? it's kind of buggin' me that there are 3 bulbs in the panel that don't light. they're fine when i test them out of the circuit board, so i'm at a loss as to why the headlight/foglight/dimmer switch panel won't illuminate....
thanks again..
thanks again..
This is rather odd. I replaced those three bulbs on my '03 and as far as I can tell they are now working. I will check tonight when I get home. I blew the fuse on the interior light replacing the trunk bulb so I'm off to the auto parts store.
Ive now got LED's fitted in lieu of the standard filament type bulbs in my 2002 V40. Working OK and offer good back lighting to both the lights/foglight switch and also the ECC module in the centre dash console.
If your bulbs ever don't work but test as Ok, simply remove them and refit other way round to get the polarity right.
