2001 s40 Blow off valve (BOV) install
I just got this 2001 volvo s40 and i am pritty new to volvos. I usually own bmws. I was wondering if there is any way of installing an aftermarket blow off valve so i can hear that pssshht every time i let off the gas. Also is there anyway of seting up a frount mount intercooler for this car? pictures and all the info i could get would be be greatly appreciated.
Why the heck would you put an aftermart BOV on the car? Just to hear the noise? I havent heard something that silly since I left the ricer forums of civics and neons. Not even big baller performance SR20DET's want an open atmosphere BOV on their race engines. Now that I am done ranting, let me explain something.
1) The vehicle has a MAFS and this sensor measures alll air going into the turbo and engine. Opening up this loop and releasing boost pressure into the atmosphere instead of back into the intake system will cause poor gas mileage, super rich conditions when the BOV opens up, and possibly bogging issues when the plugs foul up. Unless you reprogram the ECU, i guarentee the CEL will be lit up too.
2) Its silly. No one cares about the noise.

If you want to hear the turbo spool and you want to be able to hear a blow off when you let off the gas, install a new intake. Even just replacing the factory air box with a new performance air filter will turn heads when you drive by. Also you can install a front mount intercooler, but it is pointless until you remap your ecu to be able to create more boost. If you do not remap your ecu and install a front mount intercooler with new piping, you will lose a few pounds of boost and it will take a little longer for the turbo to spool due to the increase in intercooler piping size. But when you do install a new intercooler and piping make sure you get manderal bent piping.
