2001 S40 hand brake adjustment
Hand brake goes all the way to the end when engaging. I believe the adjustment is at the handle but I cannot see how to disassemble the console to get at it.
I do not see any screws to remove or maybe cannot see as well as I used to.
Looked through FAQ but could not find any answers.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Pictures are a plus.

According to the Haynes manual the rear section of the center console is removed by lifting out the drinks tray located alongside the handbrake lever along with removal of the rear ashtray unit in the rear.
The two retaining screws can then be seen inside where the ashtray was located.
You pull the console towards the rear and upwards to release the console from between the front seats.
Refitting is obviously the same in reverse.
Once the console is removed the handbrake adjusters can be seen immediately behind the handbrake mounting.

2001 S40 hand brake adjustment
Thanks for the input but it seems the console in my 2001 S40 must be somewhat different to what the Haynes Manual is referencing.
I do not have a drinks tray next to the hand brake as I have a sliding access to a narrow storage area. In the rear of the console I do have an ashtray/drink holder and I removed that and there are two screws which I removed and tried to remove the console but it was a no go. I then removed the trim around the shifter and found two more screws which I removed but still the console had some more resistance from somewhere towards the middle or rear and it still would not come out.
I moved the seats backwards and forward trying to see if there was some other screws holding it down but to no avail. I am stumped and cannot find a way to get this console removed. Anyone have more ideas as to what I am missing?
The only other oddity I came across was in the rear section once the screws were removed and ashtray was out I can feel two screws sitting down somewhat at the top of the insert but as I push down on the insert it passes by the screws but it still does not allow the piece to be removed. I would supply pictures but do not see how I can do it.
Any help is welcome
