Hello all!
Just bought a 2001 1.8s which is in really nice condition - a replacement for a '97 2.0 S40 which was still going strong until it met a police car and was written off - shame because I wanted to see how long it would last!

Have a problem getting the small sidelight bulb out which is in the inner of the twin headlamps. It's a swine to get at to start with, but the bulb just spins round and round and I'm not sure what I can do. Is there a technique to this or is something broken? In the 97 model the bulb would do a quarter turn anticlockwise then you could withdraw it.

Another problem I've solved so I'll post here in case anyone searches for the same thing. It seems pretty common for the alarm to not be working on the second generation S40 and if you search long enough (through these forums!) you find that the bonnet (or hood) switch is not being connected when closed. You can prove this be pressing the switch with your finger and activating the alarm, the indicators then come on and you get the flashing light by the passenger speaker. I fixed this by cleaning the area around the rubber-covered switch with wd40, then super-gluing the switch down. Of course the alarm won't sound if someone opens the bonnet, but its a quick and easy fix to get the alarm working in the most part.

Sorted. The lamp just pulls out, needed a good yank though, seemed to be a bit stuck. Miuch looser now.
