2002 S40 1.9T Noises in the morning
For the past couple weeks, my '02 S40 has been making groaning noises in the front left of the car. It only happens in the morning (it has been a little cooler) but doesn't continue throughout the day. The noise gets louder if I press the accelerator just a bit. It will continue until the car is at normal temperature. I usually don't drive above 40 mph and the worst noise is at 20 mph. I do have 117,000 on it, but it has been mostly highway miles. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this kind of issue. I have keep up with normal preventative maintenance. I was thinking it could be the power steering pump, but the problem does not persist through the day, only in the morning.
Just looking for more cases and thoughts!
Thanks

I am planning on heading to the local dealership in the morning on this problem. I will have them check out the mounts. It doesn't make sense to me why the issue goes away during the day. No CEL and no loss in performance to speak of. Fluid levels check out. Engine bay temperature seems to be involved at some level.

i actually have the same problem with my 01 s40... i have found that it is not from the mounts, but from the exhaust manifold!!! the noise is loud (like a vw beetle) in the morning only because the gas going t the exhaust is leaking from that tiny hole... when the engine warms up, or if it is sunny and warm, the noise will not be heard... i would not worry about the mounts, check your manifold... just a remember, that is pretty expensive, they need to machine the surface, reseal it and put it back... also, i have heard some of the pins tends to break when removing the exhaust manifold... good luck...

I have a similar problem where if i dont let the car warm up long enough and I give it gas it more or less growls and there is no power...I believe thats from not letting the car warm up enough and the turbo isn't spooling yet...after 3-4 minutes of warm up after being off all night the moan goes away and as long as the car is warmed it doesnt come back...
