Default 2004.5 S40 How to replace the signal lens on side view mirror?

My wife has a 2004.5 S40 and the lenses on the side view mirrors (for the turn signal bulbs) are yellow and I would like to replace them. I bought replacement lenses but cannot figure out how to remove the old ones.

Does the mirror itself pop off if I reach behind and pull?

Pull the door panel?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure if it's the proper way to do it, but this will give you access to the to lens.
Removing the mirror glass
Fold the mirror glass backwards and inwards as illustrated.
Grip the mirror glass. Pull the mirror glass out/backward until it releases from the outer mounting.

Then press the glass carefully into the door mirror housing. Do not allow the glass to engage in the catch.
Unhook the mirror glass from the inner mounting.
Disconnect the terminal pins from the mirror glass.
Note! Note the routing of the wiring.

Removing the shield
Press the cover out using a finger/thumb.

Passenger side (indoors) showing the yellow haze that was bothering me:

Outdoor pic of passenger side (doesn't look too yellow in this pic - the camera is making it look better than it actually does):

Hey,
Sorry for the bother you guys, but I was trying to remove the passenger side mirror covering as well (2008 s40) and I was only able to remove the mirror. I am trying to paint it myself. For some reason I cannot get the covering off. I tried following the steps above. Where exactly should you be applying pressure when removing the covering?
Thanks again!

Damn.. snapped the tabs on my cover!!
It is impossible to get the cover in place on the mirror house..
how did you do? how is it possible to remove cover without breaking??

I pushed it out from the left sida with a screwdriver.. and then tried to figgle it out from all tabs/clips etc.. and then.. BAAAAM two snapped. After a while i got it out.. byt cant put it back again it seems its just doesnt fit.

Art_vandelay, how did you do? please explain how you took cover off and how you got it back in one piece. Did you removed the motor? and the ring in front? any screws.. etc?

I did not remove the motor, just the actual mirror and then the red cover in back. (Just as instructions show in the second post)

It took some patience - they didn't come easily.

Yellowish? Isn't that the original clear after many years in the sun?

Ah ok. I thought maybe you wanted a yellow lens then use a clear bulb. The yellow bulb does tend to flake the color coating off.

Lets see. For a 2005: Driver 8679775 $24.87
: Passenger 8679777 $24.87

The cover requires some patience and also firm pressure to remove. If you have the mirror glass removed, you should be able to get a finger through the black frame and reach the painted cover. Try to dislodge the holding tabs on the outer top part of the cover first by applying pressure forward and up. Once the outer, top of the cover is coming off, you can work toward the inside portion of the cover. Be patient and work it. The cover can take some firm pressure without breaking tabs if you don't get frustrated. Also, with the cover off, you can remove the clear turn signal lenses. If they are yellowed, it is EASY to buff back to clear with a cotton buffing wheel on a drill. Use a little polishing compound like Meguiars PlastX. They will look like new with 2 minutes of polishing.
