Default 2004 s40 heater core replacement

I need some detailed info on heater core replacement (manufacture date 5/03). I'm hoping it will be the O-rings and not the core.

O-rings are easy. There are threads on this. Heater core, not so much. Get a copy of VIDA going, and plan on a LOT of excavation, AFIK.

I've read plenty on O - rings, but not for the s-40. And not sure how to get "VIDA going" ... I'm new to this.

VIDA is software for the Volvo. This would be how you look up the "how to" for replacing the o-rings leading to the heater core. It will show you step by step how to accomplish the task. It's not very consumer friendly though because it's made for the dealer, not the consumer. However, it has been hacked to allow us to use it but with some limitations. The limitations are for stuff like reprogramming ignition keys. Otherwise any thief could reprogram a key and steal your car.

VIDA is finicky to install but some clever folks have found a work around using it in a Virtual Machine. See this thread for more: http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...edba06e5a24c46 This method does work. I have used it successfully on various Windows machines. No clue on Apple OS though.

I have replaced the o-rings on my 2005 but not on my 2001 so I'm no help with the earlier version.

I helped a friend tear out his core when he was parting out his 02.... it's buried deep in the dash where no sane man ventures willingly. Some pics from the adventure here. The dash unfortunately needs to come out if you're going there.

edit is yours nedcar or ph1?
