2004 Volvo S40 brake lights not working
I just bought a 2004 S40 and noticed neither one of the brake lights are working. I've searched the forums and can only find info on other vehicles. I can't find them relay or fuse for them. Any help would be much appreciated!
Assume you have a Gen 1 S40 (not the 2004.5 gen 2).
A few things to check - there's a fuse box under the hood and a second one under the dash by the hood release. Check fuse 13 in the box under the dash.
Did you try replacing and reseating the bulbs? Do they work differently with the lights on/off (could point to a common ground problem). look around for loose connectors in the trunk.
Next is to check the brake pedal switch - its under the dash up top of the pedal lever. Check for volts in then see if it switches on/off.

Yes, its a first gen s40. I checked the bulbs and they seem fine. I'll check those fueses and brake switch. Thanks for the help!!
