IMO Crutchfield.com is the best way to shop for a stereo. You input your car info and it leads you to a list of units that work and the necessary wire harness adapters, mounting kits, etc. Doesn't mean you have to buy it there, but it will help educate you on the possibilities. You might also consider adding an aux input to allow you to play music from an ipod or mp3, which quite frankly I much prefer over a working cd player. You can find the adapter on ebay for <$70 and you can find youtube videos that show you how to pull the radio out so you can access the back to plug it in if you are moderately DIY capable. Otherwise stick with a local stereo place. Best Buy can be real hit and miss. Some of them have good installers and some don't, but generally your locally owned car audio place that only does car audio is your best bet for a quality install. In this case there are a multitude of options for equipment out there, whether it be a complete new head unit, or an adapter, but if you get a fool for an installer it won't turn out well.

If your 2006 is like my 2005, there is no aftermarket replacement. At least nothing that anyone has posted here. The center display is connected to the climate controls and other functions of the car, not just the radio and CD player. Let us know if you find a solution. I want a USB port too.

Thank yo so much guys.
I still looking of a solution. I took the stereo apart and it looks like that I have to cut some pieces of navy plastic inside the dashboard. There is no way that the radio I have will fit. My s40 manual stick is very unique I guess. I might just install a AUX so I can play my iPhone
Thanks again

In 2006, Volvo had implemented a digital format for audio - the MOST system. They also had not yet figured out that "aux-in" was a necessary part of a modern audio setup.
If your current OEM changer is bad, the Grom or Denison systems (that replace the CD changer functions inside the MOST environment) might be a choice. They are spendy (~ $3 -400), but, hey, it's a Volvo. Besides, the Volvo speaker system is glorious (IMHO), and you might as well take advantage of it.
Don't forget junk OEM radios.
Me? I used an FM modulator and the 9V connector injection point combined with Crutchfield's in-panel bluetooth dongle. Total cost, about $60.00, but I get static sometimes.
