Arrow 2006 s40 turbo

I've just received my first car and i want to upgrade the turbo, but i obviously don't know much about my car. is there any good ways to increase my boosts without doing an overhaul of the engine or new turbo? also my volvo tends to make a higher pitched noise when im accelerating does anyone know what that is from?

boost is controlled by the ECU program. Google "S40 ECU tuning" and you'll see links for vendors such as ARD, RICA, Upsolute, Elevate and others. If you go for a mild tune, you don't have to do too much more to the engine - a nice add would be a larger downpipe to help the flow out of the stock turbo. High pitched noises can be caused by air leaks in the intake or even a clogged PCV. Try revving the engine and listen around. Then pull the dipstick out to see if the sound goes away - if it does, you are due for a new PCV system. Another way of testing for a clogged PCV is to do the "rubber glove test" by putting a rubber (ie surgeon's) glove over the oil filler. if it inflates your PCV is not venting the crankcase. Don't let this go unattended as it can push out cam seals etc and cause oil leaks.
