Default Air Conditioning ON then OFF

Have a 2007, 2.4 non turbo S40 with the winter pkg. and an AUX jack for the iPhone on the consul and a 6 disk CD player.
For past year the air cond. works for 5 min. then off especially goes off if I hit a bad bump. Wait 15 min. then it will run cool only if I turn it off. Took it to 2 shops and one shop wanted to change out the compressor. Second shop did a longer electrical test and found that the Radio and air control panel was causing the cut out. So, they ordered up a used computer consul for the heat and radio. I noticed that the AUX button was missing. And a day later my heater would blow instead of air conditioner when I pressed the A/C button! On way home air worked. Additionally, the shop found one of my A/C sensors to be defective. The cold would stop after 5-10 min of working. Wait 15 min. and the press A/C button and it would work.
So, I called a Volvo Stealer shop and they told me the consul has to be the exact one/style meant for my exact model. The used one is definitly NOT. And I would need a reflash of the consul so it would work correctly.
Question: the mechanic still has the original. Do you believe that the Volvo just needed a A/C Radio Consul reflash to work correctly?
Is the bad pressure sensor due to the miss matched consul swaped to my car?
Would it be worth my time to have the old one put in and have the Volvo shop do a reflash?
Thanks for any help as Cash Is Going Fast To My Kids Colleges!

Why didn't you replace the compressor? That's much more likely to be the actual fault.

I took it to a second shop that specializes in air cond.
Wanted a second opinion on a 1200.00 dollar job.

They did an electrical work back thinking it was compressor and could not get it to go off. So they did a electrical work back to the relay and fuses and finally wound up with the control panel for air cond. and radio being the culprit. They then installed a control panel as I said from a dif year S40. Now the air works going over bumps and expansion joints. But, other bugs are in the mix now as the Volvo Parts in Oak Park IL said the control panel must identical in all ways to the original. Cost: 660.00.

Beware that the newer model S40s have an issue with the compressor clutch. When the air works for 5-10 minutes (always on the hottest day) and then runs warm air for awhile, then runs cold again for 5-10 minutes and repeats with the warm air. This is due to the spacer shims in the compressor clutch allowing too much of a gap between faces of the clutch. There are 3 shims in the clutch and you need to remove one in order to bring the clutch faces closer together. It takes about 10 minutes to do it yourself.

Here is a link but with photobucket's change to TOS it's screwed up the images.

Compressor spins fine even when air is in its off phase. Had it on a rack and the compressor functioned like new. Clutch is tight.

My money is on the clutch. We see them all the time in the summer. The spin fine, they just don't stay engaged when hot. Run the AC until it cuts out and then check for power to the clutch. If there is power but it isn't engaged, you've found your problem (after getting the correct CCM back in the car, of course).

I can't recall ever having to replace a CCM on a P1 car.

+1 on the clutch shims. Very common and pretty easy to fix. You can borrow the tools from Auto Zone or places like that.

Default Yep, a Compressor :O

Sad news for all the effort I put into having the ON OFF air conditioner .
Had a correct Control Mod. put in today. That was the third time at the shop for A/C problem. They put in new board and said the air works great! Got down the road and in 5 min back to warm air. So, I trucked over to a Volvo dealership and had the diag. done. No software trouble just a bad compressor!
Guess I will try the shimming route and see what happens. Worth a try over spending 800-1200 Washingtons!

Technically it's "de-shimming" since you are removing a shim. Now each of the 3 shims are a different thickness. The normal routine is to remove the thinnest one first and test.
