Default Angle Gear Leak - 2009 S40 AWD

So, I took my car in for its first oil change at 4000 miles, and the mechanic told me that I have my first warranty claim...

Looks like the angle gear is leaking. Didn't notice oil because the leak is small and it all goes on the shield (?).

I'll get this fixed under warranty, no big deal...but I did some searches on this problem and I'm now concerned that it will be a recurring issue.

Once the dealer fixes the problem, is it something I will likely see again? Do I need to consider an extended warranty so that I don't have an expensive repair after 60K miles?

Just keep an eye on it. There's no use speculating now on what the future will hold. Just be glad you have the warranty to take care of it for a while.

If it keeps happening, definitely go for the extended warranty.

OK, so Volvo/the dealer have decided to re-seal the Angle Gear...

Apparently when they opened the fill cap for the angle gear, there was a release of pressure but the oil level was still OK. Guess that the tech had to contact Volvo to get input on what to do.

Has anyone seen or heard of this issue before? If so, will resealing the Angle Gear be sufficient or am I looking at a premature failure down the road?

Also, is it typical for this type of issue to take several days? I dropped the car off on Monday AM and probably won't get it back until Thursday.

Update...

Dealer replaced angle gear seal, vent checked out OK. Car is ready to be picked up.

Took over 3 work days to get fixed...seems kind of long to me, I had a Subaru dealer replace bad head gaskets ($2000 job) and it took only two days.

In any case, I'm looking forward to getting the car back.

The fact that it took that long could be a good sign. Obviously they don't do it everyday! They can't do it in their sleep, therefore it's not that common of an issue.

Maybe...
