Default best bang 4 buck

SO what is the best bang for the buck. According to posts, no bolt ons work or work well. I want to get some power adders but is a chip or engine upgrade the best way for the money? I love my 00 s40 but some more power would be nice to help out the auto trans. Thanks in advance.

In any event.

Do not use a MBC ME7 cars do not like MBC's.

You could get a nice chip upgrade like BSR.

Also a 3" downpipe to a 2.5" free flowing exhaust would add some power.

I am the chip guy here, I have had mine done and I got from 160 to 200 hp. I have added a bit more and now run about 220. Downpipe is a good idea but you have to get rid of the flex pipe. best thing to do there is get the one cut out and weld a new one, getting rid of the pinched oval sections as well. You might want to cut the two resonators out, dont get rid of the Catalytic. If you have an extra 5 or 6 grand I would change the whole exhaust system to a dual maybe Heidco something like that, still only going to get you about 20 25 maybe tops. 3" Catback by the way. You could get a cold air converstion that is good for about 10 or 15.

Thanks zz. I don't or rather wont spend more on the exhaust than I did on the car. BTW what did u spend for the chip upgrade? Seems to be what im looking for rather than doing a 2.4 swap. I would love to get mine up to 200hp!!

Stage 1 chip, plus Heico exhaust, plus cold air intake (homemade) plus K&N = 176 hp stock to 2oo hp currntly and that is plenty for a small car.2002 s40.Including time about 2000 bucks invested. Not a real good return on ur money but I actually get better performance and mileage too ( if I can keep my lead foot out of it.Lol.
