Have a 2004 s40 this is the model that is in the 2001-2004 with 1.9L turbo. Not sure if it would be different than the other s40 model that was made in late 2004. Anyway, I'm getting an intermittent Brake and ABS light on dash. At first the light was on solid and I thought I just needed to add brake fluid since the fluid was right around the min level mark. After adding the fluid I cleared all codes using a scan tool hoping to that was all I needed to be rid of this issue but the lights are coming back intermittently. Any tips on next steps to check what may be causing this issue?

Oh, I do have the dashboard issue on this car where the speedo and gas gauge works intermittently. I didn't think that would be related but then again maybe it is.

What codes did you clear ? you must check what the codes are , It could be lots of things , bad abs sensor , corroded abs wheel so the senser gets bad info or even the abs unit or bad wiring

 

could also be a crack in a solder joint in the ABS controller board - as noted you need to check codes. Check out Midwest ABS and XeModex's web sites for diagnostics on the controller and for a possible rebuild.
