Default buying a used S40

hello,

should i consider this used S40:
2002, 1900 turbo diesel
206 000 miles
new turbo and new brakes
after major service
NB - 3rd hand, with first driver being a driving school instructor

given its mileage and driving school history, should i avoid it?
i'm also a newbie to cars and to volvos! my priority is safety.

thanks in advance!

This totally depends on what they are asking for it.

Default I would not get it...

200K miles is a lot for every car.. Specially when people that do know how to drive used it.. Unless it is a bargain and you take for a specialized mechanic to do an thorough evaluation I (personally) would not take it even if is a bargain.. On the long run the bargain may not be worth the value...

thanks for the replies!
i guess that i will have to patiently wait for the next car, rather than risk breakdowns ... just for interest, i'm buying this in israel. it is selling for the equivalent of about $6000. a brand new s40 costs about $45000.
what would you say my mileage cut off amount be for a volvo should be?

Holy hell! talk about supply and demand! I'd say keep a 200 and ablove model under 115k and you should be fine.

the seller has just discovered from his garage that the engine needs a complete overhaul.
he is willing to half the asking price in order to allow for the repairs needed.

if i buy it and take the car to an excellent mechanic, will a complete overhaul mean a 'new' and reliable engine or should i still avoid this car?
