Have what appears to be a common problem of the A/C blowing cold air for a few minutes then hot airfor a while. When you turn the A/C off for a few minutes and turn it back onthen it will blow cold air for a couple of more minutes then blow hotagain. I’ve done some research on this and it appears to be afairly common problem with the Volvo A/C clutches going bad andintermittently working. My problem is I can't find anyone that will make this repair - they will only replace the compressor, etc. Does anyone know of someone in the Tidewater/Hampton Roads area of Virginia (Norfolk, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach) that will do this repair?

 

what year is your S40? Also have you checked the pressure of the system? As far as getting somebody to do the work, the problem is no shop wants to simply reshim and then get blamed if that doesn't do the job. You can search eBay etc for a whole replacement clutch - for about $100 or so and see if a shop will drop that in for you. At least that way you don't need to have the system opened up then recharged etc.

On my 2005 I did not even have to remove the compressor. It's right there and easy to work on.

 

if the clips don't stay on (mine did not) just use zip ties instead.
