Car jolting and jerking
Hey I’m coming here today to try and get some help before I bite the bullet and take it in I’m trying to see if anyone has had a similar issue. ( Volvo s40 2.4l 2005) I’m getting a jerk like feeling/bump when turning into parking spaces or basically when the wheel is fully maxed out to one side or another. feels like more of the left side Forsure but as of today it’s both pretty even.. you can feel this through the whole car and Is worse when Icy I definitely see a difference when it’s icy/ snowy and not but it’s happening on dry. I believe my issue happened while sliding on ice trying to brake with my wheel fully cranked trying to avoid a cliff. I have bought a control arm but waiting to put it on thanks in advance..
how does the car drive otherwise? does it feel like it goes in/out of alignment (tracks straight then pulls to one side)? Do you hear any noises going over speed bumps or railroad tracks? Have you put the wheels up and checked for any play? Could be a control arm but it could also be one of several other things so more info is needed to really get to the root cause. My list of suspects: Control arm bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends or center rod, Subframe bushing, steeering rack mounts, strut bushings...
The car feels okay other than what explained the best I could it’s starting to get worse as of today it doesn’t take a full turn to feel it anymore. And it’s doing it it when turned right or left on a sharp turn into parking spots. It’s very much more noticeable on icy roads it feels like a big knock it’s never not done it on icy roads as of lately. I hear a few noises but nothing up front at all and I have checked for play in the wheel but I’m not really getting anything crazy. About the control arm that was my first thought but wanted to get input from someone. Looks like I may have to take it in
