Car Radio Needs Replacing. 2003 S40
Whenever I go over a bump, the radio changes stations! Thanks to a bf who was helping me out with my car and I ended up spending a lot more $$$ fixing the newly created problems, lol.
Given this track record, should I just expect to bring it into a car audio shop for a purchase of a radio and install---or is this project something I, with no experience, can do myself?
If I can do it myself, what do I need to look for online when purchasing a replacement stereo? I see mention of things like Single DIN and Double DIN, plate, amp kit, etc.

I'd just go with a Volvo OEM radio. I dropped an 816 in my S40 (original had no CD!) and its a plug-in replacement (just make sure you buy a replacement with code to avoid the hassle of checking VINs or radio serial numbers with the dealer). You can find something for about $50 on eBay or at a yard (check carpart.com) to get an AM/FM/CD. If you want to add in an IPOD interface, you can buy a gadget that plugs into the factory CD changer port as well. Note the car is a "double DIN". The speakers are not the greatest so going after market means you need to get a volvo factory connector set up, if you add a big amp you need to consider upgrading speakers etc.. Radios from similar year V70s etc fit...
