Clunking Noise, rear end passenger side
I have a 07 s40, I just had the rear brakes replaced in april, about a month ago I noticed a clunking noise coming from the back passenger side of my car, this only happens when the speed of the car is below 50 and when i go over bumps and uneven roadways. The noise stops when I hit the brakes or go above 55mph. The "chain" tire store says its not the brakes,, I dont want to take it to the dealer yet.. any suggestions?
Could be your sway bar end links, though I don't know why brakes would have anything to do with it. This is a common wear item. Inexpensive parts and relatively easy to DIY. Just replaced my fronts @ 43K miles, doing my rears next. Definitely cleared up *some* of the clunking noises...
Replaced my rear sway bar end links last night. Definitely helped get rid of some clunking. They were rusty and a PITA to remove.
Had to use the sawzall with a metal cutting blade to finally get them off.
Parts only cost $22 though.
There is still a bit of a knock. Seems higher up in the rear...
