Crankshaft timing pin
I have a 2005 S40 AWD 2.5l turbo with a timing issue. I am going to go back to basics. I have made a cam shaft locking tool for the ends of the cam but also need a pin to lock in crankshaft from hole behind starter. Do I need to buy a kit to get that pin or does anyone know a substitute that will work. Thanks

I just did the timing belt and VVT on my V40 for the third time recently and was planning to insert the crank pin until I totally stripped the hex plug that needs to be taken out to push the crank pin in. Was pleasantly surprised at how hard it was to turn the crank and was not overly concerned with having it move by mistake. Not sure if this helps you...good luck!
Thanks for your reply. I ended up using a 3/8 extension, it seemed to fit perfect, and the marks on the crank pulley lined up perfect. My plug came out nicely, I had more issue with the T30 star bit under the plugs on the camshaft but finally got them. Got it back together but having problems with VVT solenoids. Some wire fraying at connectors, planing on rebuilding them or replacing connector. I have cleaned and tested both solenoids but still not sure they are working properly. Getting CFL. Car is not on the road at present so I can take my time.
Wow I feel your pain. I chased down a VVT error for a whole year replacing the solenoid, the ignition harness, messing with oil changes, etc. I finally caved and replaced the vvt gear itself even though it was only a few years old. CEL finally went away.
