Default Exhaust Manifold

I wanted to run this by this forum - My Volvo has been in and out of the shop for the last year. I've been trying to find a mechanic I like and trust. I just brought my car in to a Saab specialist and he replaced the thermometer and the exhaust manifold. My car is a 2002 S40 w/ 67,000 miles on it. The check engine light has been going on and off (mostly on) for the last year. That repair seemed to have solved that problem. But now I have white smoke coming out of my tail pipe but only on big hills and when I hit the turbo. Any insight in to what the problem might be?

My mechanic who is looking at the car right now says I might need to have my turbo rebuilt? any idea of how much money this should cost if I need it done. And he also said that it was not doing it before he repaired it because there was not as much pressure going in to the turbo box.

Let me know what you guys think!

I would make sure the Vent system is clean and not clogged before going any further.

I think you mean "thermostat" not "thermometer"? Is this a problem with the inter-cooler on the turbo?

I did mean Thermometer - There was not a problem before I got it repaired. The car has better pick now that the exhaust manifold has been replaced. I took it in originally because on cold starts it sounded like a diesel. I've read about the exhaust manifold being the problem and the mechanic fixed that and the thermometer. There was def no white smoke or leaking of oil before.

if the turbo is damaged, you will lose a great amount of power...getting a 12t(your turbo) rebuilt isn't worth it now a days, you can buy a new 12t or upgrade to a larger 14t from ebay and you'll be spending between 300-600 for the turbo...the job to replace the turbo isn't that difficult and a mechanic can do it in a day...
