I have just purchased a new (to me) 2004 Volvo S40, and I am getting a loud grinding noise from my front end when braking. Could this just be the brake pads? The Km's are only at 74000. Could it be anything else? I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance!!!!

 

If it's only when braking I would start there, pads and/or rotors.

 

are they cheap pads.... cheap pads tend to make some noise......

also feel if the rotors have and grooves

 

+1 to chimmy, most places I have read say stick with Volvo pads. Not the pure rule, some have success. But if there is an issue, try going back to OEM.
