Hand brake not working
The hand brake has slowly got worse , now it just does not work , I thought that the cable has been the problem but it works fine when engaged it moves the pin but the caliper piston does not move , normal brakes work as the disk is not rusted and when I lift the car and apply brakes the rear engage , I tried moving the brake piston in and out and it moves ok with a winde back tool , any ideas

Ok so I changed the brake fluid recently and when I turn the piston in the caliper the dust seals are stuck , apparently one needs to reset the handbrake (e brake in US) by winding it all the way in ? If I try to do that the seals will break , dealer here in RSA wants to sell me a caliper as they dont sell spares , madness , is there a way to loosen the brake piston rubber seal ?
So manages to ger a caliper rubber seal kit , includes the piston seals as well as pin guides but was cheap ,
The old dust cover was stuck on the piston and broke in trying to remove it , looked like some garage in the past had put some lubricant on it and it virtually glued it in place (hard job cleaning it)
anyway this is to help members when the handbrake (emergency brake in US) stops working
If one changes brake fluid one needs to reset the rear calipers by winding them all the way in and the back and adjust as close to a tight fit
