Default How much MPG is your s40/s60 giving you?

I'm an upcoming college student looking to purchase his first car and me and my father are considering a volvo s40 or s60. The one thing we're worried about is the fuel economy. We are hoping for something around 25 in the city, since most of my driving will be in the city, instead of highway.

If I get an s40, it'll be a FWD 2.4i, and if I get a s60, it will be one of the FWD versions. If you have any of the following, what kind of MPG do you get in the city? If a thread like this already exists, i'd appreciate a link! I could not find one.

Thanks in advance!

Both my 2001 and 2005 get a combined 25mpg highway/city driving. The 2001 will get 34 mpg highway only. The 2005 T5 AWD is around 30 mpg highway only (The turbo is addictive).

If your 2005 is an AWD, I'm assuming it gets lower mpg than a FWD would, right?

The AWD is only active when the fronts lose traction. The car is a bit heavier though.

Certainly the S40 will do slightly better, though in city driving maybe not more than 1-2 mpg, but the S60 isn't too bad. My 2.4T does 24 mpg (~28 mixed and 30+ highway @ 75 mph) unless I spend an unusual amount of time idling in a jam. That is actual measured, not going by the computer. I find that the computer is usually within 10% of actual.

Good luck and congrats! I am only a year away from sending my son off to college. Where did the time go?
