I recently purchased a used 2001 S40. Everything has been great except for yesterday I went over a set of railroad tracks and the CD skipped. Not even a rough set of tracks. Went over a small bump in the road after that during the same drive and it skipped again and said CD Error and spit the disc out. Now it will not play any CD. As soon as I put in a CD it says Error and spits it right back out.

Anyone have any ideas???

Make sure you get the Radio code first. Then remove the radio and unplug it and let it sit for a little while then plug it back in and see if it works.

 

I know I can call a dealership and get the code for the radio. Is there a way I can get the code myself before I disconnect it?

No way at all.
They might make you go there. Most Dealers won't give it over the phone.

I just gave the guy my VIN# lol

 

You got lucky most won't do it over the Phone and want proof the car is yours.

 

My dealer knows who I am and gave me my code over phone as well.

I am have the same trouble and considering putting in a volvo cd changer ($265) to take care of the problem since the dealer wants to replace the entire radio system as a fic to the CD player. However I don't know how the radio comes out to plug in the connector. How do you take the radio out?

There is little buttons on the sides of the radio you push in then pull out to release the radio.
