Default incorrect ambient temperature reading

I have a 2005 Volvo S40 2.4L and the outside temperature gauge is about 20 degrees low at all times. Some of the little information I could find revealed that this could be a problem with the sensor itself or it could be related to a technical service bulletin that would run 5-6 hours of labor at a shop. But I couldn't find any information specifically related to a 2005 S40.

Where is the sensor located on this car? Is it the drivers side mirror? Could I just order a new sensor and replace it? I would just take it to a Volvo dealer for an estimate on the issue but the nearest dealer is about 250 miles away.
