Default me again , starting issues.

can anyone tell me if my vovlo will start without my camshaft sensor working/plugged in, i have been advised that it will still start without it working properly/plugged in but not be able to drive good is this true. I need to know cuz the diagnostics test says faulty camshaft sensor and it will cost me €185 for it, if i knew a car will start without it , it would save me the money and time as my car isnt starting and the diagnostics reading is faulty camshaft sensor.

is there anyway of testing to see if the sensor is shot or should i just get the new one , and are diagnostic tests always very accurate, as you know i have had this problem for quite sometime now and my mechanic got it going after the first time it would'nt start after lying idle for a day, and after i let it lay idle for two days the same problem again. It does sound electrical to me i dont think it's mechanical. When i leave the key switched on, should there be petrol getting to the injectors cuz i took off the fuel pipe at the snap-on connection just before the injectors and there was no fuel coming out of the pipe is this right or should there be fuel coming out of it?

The pump does a self test when the key is first turned on.After that the pump will not prime till engine it turned over and the cam sensor sees the motor moving.

There is a test but I do not have the info here.

so there is a good chance that it is the camshaft sensor considering all the previous symptoms?!? I have also noticed alot of similar posts been answered with fuel pressure regulator, could this also be my problem or would it start eventually even with a defective FPR?!?!

The FPR is usually just for hard starts after the car sits for a while.

well finally got the camshaft sensor and guess what it's still isn't starting, totally fed up at this stage. Went around everything again, took the fuel flow pipe off at the fuel pump and turned the key on, fuel pump, pumped out petrol for a few seconds and stopped, this is normal i think because it hasn't got the go-ahead from the engine to prime(no start), i took the fuel flow pipe off just before the fuel pressure regulator and switched on several times and even tried cranking a few times and no sign of petrol coming atall, what could this be because i know that you dont have to bleed out a petrol fuel system it will purge itself after a while. Is it possible there is a blockage somewhere along the line because im sure that there would have to be a constant flow of petrol coming out off the fuel pipe at the FPR for it to fire up especially when the pump is now definatley pumping. Have you got anymore ideas, maybe it is the FPR it might not be working atall but im sure that the diagnostics test would have read this but it only read camshaft sensor which i now know it's not.

If it pumps only when the key is first turned on for a second then none at all the computer is missing the signal from the motor to the ECU.

It is normal to pump like that for a few seconds then stop. Then it will pump again once the engine is cranked.

Some of the inputs signals are as follows.
Cam sensor
Crank sensor
Mass flow

yes but it is pumping for a few seconds not just one so does this mean that it is ok. i have took out my FPR and i did not notice any fuel in the air pipe but there may be some, it is very small. if i blow down on the top of it, the air purges out of the little syves but does not come out of the hole where the air pipe was connected and also when i suck on the little air pipe hole on the FPR nothing happens i cant the air isn't able to be sucked through it, so does this mean that is clogged and it isn't working right? Also i have noticed that the make of the FPR is webber should it not be volvo because maybe it has been changed already by the previous owner do you know should it be webber or volvo? thanks.

The pump is ok it is the signal that is missing from the motor to the engine computer to run the pump all the time.

i have got petrol up to the fpr and disconnected the fuel rail and looked into the hole and it is full of petrol, surley this is enough to get the car started for a few seconds anyway?

The same signal that activates the fuel pump also activates the injectors which pump the fuel into the motor allowing it to start.

so my best bet is to get another diagnostic reading done then, or would there be a code that will have to be cleared now that would have been caused by the old sensor prior to fitting the new one?

The code might be there bit that should not stop it from running.

Have you got any more ideas as what it could be? , im totally out of them due to the fact that the diagnostics only showed up the camshaft sensor and he was there for quite long time trying to start it while taking the reading and was very adement that it was this that was the problem so im sure that if it was crankshaft or airmass flow sensors they too would have showed up on the diagnostics!!
