my 2000 volvo s40 wont turn over
i have a 2000 volvo s40 and when we put the ikey in the ignition, the key will not go past "II" position to start the vehicle! The key normally has to be in the "III" position to start........HELP!!!

yes, i had this same problem about a month ago on my '01 s40. the electrical system was fine; everything worked except i couldn't turn the key to start the engine.
the problem was a "faulty ignition column lock". total cost including labor to repair: $431.65.
according to the mechanic, it could have been worse. it could have been a broken transmission cable, in which case the cost would have been well over $1000.
