Default My S40 blues

I have a 2005 T5 that I got back in Dec. At first I loved the car, but now I'm starting to have little problems with it. I of course bought it used... when I got it it had about 33,000 miles on it, now I have just under 38,000 miles.

The first problem I started having was the radio. If I had a cd in before I turned off the car, when I would start in up again the radio would come on and I would not be able the change the station. I would have to turn off the radio and let it sit for a few mins.

Now the car when I start it up doesn't always start on the first try. It will start, but it will turn itself off. On the second try it will start right up.

Another problem I'm starting to have is the brakes. I don't have the loud sound that other people have been complaining about butmy carisvibrating.

I feel your pain! I have a 2005 S40 T5 as well and loved it when I first purchased it.I started having trouble with it cranking up,especially when it's hot outside. My radiator had a hole in it and leaked antifreeze. I hadthe cartowed to the dealer onMonday morning and finally got it back the following Friday. The also did the 45,000 mile scheduled maintenance. The next day (Saturday), the "Check Engine" light came on and now it takes several tries before the car will crank and the engine skips when it finally does crank. I called the service manager and he told me that it must be warranty related and not anything they did. Yeah, right!

I've hadelectrical problems and issues with my radio, too.My husband is so fed up with all the problems that he wants me to get rid of it. I don't think I will ever buy another Volvo.

'05 T5 6-sp - Why are either one of you two telling us what the problem is? If you have less than 50kmi, take it to the dealer, tell them everything you said here, get a brand new volvo to drive as a loaner, and leave your car until they get it right.

Volvo does this. It's what you paid for, used or new. The cars may not be perfect, but customer service is #1. I bought mine @ 41kmi in March '07, since then it's been in the shop nearly 2 months for anything I wanted replaced - from rear-view mirror turn signal lenses to new clutch and pressure plate to engine mounts, free of charge - the car is now newer than it was when I bought it. Try that with any American or Japanese make.

I think if you put a little effort behind getting your complaints heard, and maybe think outside the box, you will find Volvo supports their core product - the car. As long as they keep making a sweet looking S40t, I'll never buy another marque.

Shout out to Dyer & Dyer Volvo!

i agree with datastreamcom, all my visits to the Delearship were nice---> even offer Free Breakfeast and Lunch. There loaner cars which are also free are very convenient. Plus everytime I ask my car to be washed and vacuummed, they do it for free too.

Gee, I guess I bought my Volvo from the wrong dealership in the wrong part of the country. My dealership doesn't give me a free Volvo to drive when mines in the shop. I'm lucky to get a Buick. They certainly don't go out of their way to fix anything and don't care if I'm not happy with them. I've gone all the way up to leaving messages for the zone manager who doesn't return them. I've filled out the surveys Volvo has sent to my home stating my dissatisfaction and get no reply. I won't buy another Volvo, I'm going back to Toyota.

What car company did Datastream buy his car from? Not the Volvo I've come to loath and hate. The company has not stood by the near 30K car I bought new off the floor. I live in good sized metro/resort city... and our dealership is an abomonation. I'm lucky if my car is not returned dirtier than when I brought it (most of the times it is), I now have permanent stains on the doors, seats, carpets from careless service people, and several contacs w/ Volvo customer service had yielded nothing. I still have an 11 month old car that vibrates, has a squeaky driver's seat, and now had "battle scars" from various botched attemps at service. I envy those who have had a proper Volvo experiecne, but please know that YOUR experience does not indicate how a person buying a new Volvo will fare across the board.

The Volvo dealer I go to finally gave me a 2006 loaner after they had it for two weeks. Even though the vehicle is under warranty, it still shouldn't haveas many problems as it does. It is very inconvenient having to have the car towed while you're on your way to work. I've owned other vehicles and never had this much trouble, especially when the car has less than 50,000 miles on it.

Interesting indeed. I wonder why it's so different.I bought mine third hand from a hole in the wall, but both dealersthe car went to had very similar treatment policies while the car was under warranty.

It's not now . . . and coincedentally, the car is going back to the second dealer. They scratched the sh** out of one of the wheels when they replaced the transmission, so they are having it refinished as a good will gesture. Meanwhile, and a dubious aside, the car started making a constant sqeaking noise at idle 2 days ago. No change w/wo A/C. little change in pitch under revs, but quietens down at speed - or is covered up by windnoise, etc. It's loud. Sounds like a slipping beltat itsquietest coming from top-left, grill-side of the engine. It's difficult to find the belt, much less get close to the area of the sound.

Anyhoo, it's running rough and started gyrating when slowing to a stop too. I was offered an extended warranty. . . . . sure sounds worth it now.

Volvo Customer Care is programmed into my cell phone, which is enough to ward off the faint of heart, but it certainly helps ensure no funny business goes on behind the dealer curtain.. 1-800-458-1552 You may likely speak with Debbie. She is very nice and carries a big stick when it comes toinfluencing dealers to honor warranties - to include appropriate substitute transportation. If you have a valid complaint, she will speak with the dealer about it and call you back with the jist. In my case, it was my word verse the first dealer. I found a second dealer who agreed with me, and Debbie set it up to have the (rather expensive) repair done by the second dealer under warranty.

You should also bereceiving calls from Volvo to rate your experience after each visit. Trash them if your experience warrants. You will hear back from them sooner or later.

I can understand the sour taste of bad service. It doesn't go away easily.

Just an update about the visit to the dealer today, mentioned in the previous post.

Once again, Volvo exceeded my expectations. Shout out to Walt @ Dyer Volver, ATL, GA

They knew what the sound was when I pulled in the lane. It was caused by a cracked and leaking component of the vacuum system. About $600 repair, an no longer under warranty, I was readying the vasaleen and stretching my quads when they informed me that the repair would noramlly have been covered under warranty and well, they said they would cover this repair too - good will. I was stunned. Not only are they doing the repair for free, outside the warranty period, but also providing another loaner to use until I could return to pick up the car. Turned out to be the loaded-loaner this time - black, leather, supreme sound, changer, sun roof even.

I'm not mooching. The 52k service and rear pads are also being done, buton my dime.

One might ask, "Could this last forever?" The answer is no, of course.

But the point of all this is to help those who have crummy experiences with their Volvo dealer to know what other dealers do, and give them an avenueforrecompense when the situation warrants.

So there! Looks like the East coast has the best Volvo dealerships in the country.

datastreamcom,
I'm in Augusta now , I'm going to call your dealership. I know its a ways away, but if the service is as good as you say then I will make the drive. I don't think my car is under warranty so I'm going to have to do everything slowly.

Well I now have a new problem with the car, it bucks when I drive it hard. I'm going to change out the spark plugs and the coils to see if that helps any.

I did drive my car to GA from NJ about a month ago... I was a little nervous at first, but the car did well. I love my car and I love Volvo. I'm hoping to be able to upgrade to the S80 in the next few yrs. I just hope that I will be able to get all the problems fixed on this one.

Actually, you maybe closer to them than I. I'm in Thomasville, about 40 mi north of FLA border.

If your car isn't under warranty, extended or otherwise, all bets are off my friend. There's little need to go that far out of the way for repairs or maintenance coming out of your pocket.

That's not to say you wouldn't get coffee and donuts while you're there, but unless you have paperworkfor repairs or maintenance, performedunder warranty,.that did notresolve the issue for which the maintenance or repairs were performed, and further attention is required, you may want to think about selling it maybe??

I might someday jump for an S80 R or t if they have one . . . . : )
