Need door lock technical assistance.
I am having trouble with the remote door locks on my 2002 Volvo s40.
It seems the problem must be in the receiver (vgla), that I assume also
sends signals to the doors (by wire) to unlock or lock - whichever the case maybe.
I am looking for a shop that specializes in working on and repairing
these problem. Please do not tell me to me to take it to a Volvo dealer; that is too expensive.
There must be a specialty shop in the United States that can work on these. I am located in Southern Massachusetts and I have not been able to find one.
Any help appreciated on this.
Thanks in advance.

If the VGLA needs to be replaced, software is needed to program it. So you need a shop that has VIDA and a subscription to allow downloads. And guess who pays for that.
Replacement pays .3, plus an hour for programming.

Okay, that it to be expected. The payments and costs I mean. I am just out of ideas on my own as to what to do myself. The local Volvo dealer charges about $ 150.00/hr; they are also the Mercedes-Benz dealer and repair service locally.
That is quite high.
I know there are specialty shops that work on exhausts, radios, headlights, etc. Is there one that works on remote door locks?
Thanks in advance.
