Default Need input, possible new S40 Owner

Hello to all!

I am new to the forum and to be honest never thought I would be spending time on a volvo forum. I am in my late 30's, married and have a one year old son. Practical must come out of my wifes mouth 3 to 4 times a day.Not to bore you with details but we are in the market for a car and she wants a volvo - Safe- Practical. I am looking for something I could have some fun with and soemthing that looks and runs good as well. After reading for hours and test driving soem C30's and S40's and S60's We both really like the new S40. My question?

Am I correct in saying the S40 T5 does not come in a 6 Speed? I am looking for AWD or FWD. I have seen 05's and 06'd with the 6 speed but no the new ones?

How much trouble am I going to have finding a low millage 6 speed? and does anyone know if they will offer it ion 09. I live in North Eastern PA and will travel for the right car.

Any thoughts on performance and relaibility would alos be appreciated.

Thank You All.

Charles

Welcome! I'm a new Volvo S40 owner myself.

You are correct - the manual transmission was dropped from the T5 in 2008. And guess what - it's dropped from the 2.4i model in 2009! The S40 is all automatic from now on.

I saw many low-milage S40s recently - but most were 2.4i models. T5's are harder to come by and AWD is rarer still. Autotrader is an easy place to search. I found my car on local Craigs list entry. Used S40 2.4i's are a great value now - often less expensive than a loaded Honda Civic of comparable age and milage. Of course if you want top performance then the T5 is your model, but you'll pay $4000+ over the cars with the smaller engine.

Best of luck!
