Need new turbo
I have a 2001 s40 with the 1.9t engine. This is a completely stock s40. My turbo is shot and needs replaced. I was wondering what turbo to get. I would like to get 300+ hp out of the car now if that is possible. Thank you for your help.
Have a lot of money piled up?
Settle for about 250-270 and you'll be better off.The tranny will let you down pretty much above that power level anyway doesnt worth the money and effort to go higher.
You'll need a 14T turbo
new set of injectors like 550cc ones good up to 250HP
modified CAI
new ECU program
3" DP + decat open exhaust
Once the car runs stronger you surely want to upgrade the suspension, wheels and the brakes as well to actually be able to take advantage of the higher power output.
About $6000 will get you going if you do all the installation yourself.Good luck and keep us posted of your progress.

Exatly and for 300+ actually a lot more involved than a bigger turbo. Also for this car nothing can be bought from the self everything has to be custom made for some extra money.Forgot to mention the FMIC also which needs to be customized onto this car as well.Without it the 14T turbo pretty much buttoms out at 235HP.
With the FWD T5 your biggest problem is your transmission not engine for power.
But for my year, 1995-2004, the most i've seen is 989hp put down by Autotech's T4
Yeah most pieces will have to be custom, but i am pretty sure that Viva or volvo performance made some internals. I'll see if i can dig the thread up with the autotech/twr car
Every time I consider upgrading some aspect of my car, I bail once I start adding stuff up. Let me give you an example: I was looking at an HKS intercooler, but then I figured I would certainly want to build a new custom intake and exhaust to make it breathe more freely. Then I figured because of the added power, the stock suspension and brakes would no longer be ideal. However, the caliper on the new brakes I looked at would not fit in the stock wheels. So, new 18" wheels and tires. And it just goes on and on from there.
