Default New to the forums

Hey!

I'm totally new to the forums and also a newbie when it comes to Volvos.
Almost a week ago my oldies and i went to order our brand spanking new 2008 Volvo S40 T5 AWD pearl sapphire black.
We took one for a test drive before purchasing one. We just loved the way it drove and the amount of power it had under the bonnet.
We ordered an automatic trannie coz my old man can't drive a manuel but its still a bloody great car in an auto form no questions about that.

Just got a couple of questions to throw at you Volvo enthusiast.
1.How much boost does these late model S40 T5 AWD run out of the box? i've had a search around the forums and i get a mixed answer of 7 pounds and 10 pounds?
2.How well do these cars launch off the line? the reason was because the car is mainly a FWD car till the fronts lose it and the rears kick in. Is there lag during the process?
What would be the best techique to launch these days in the dry? ie at what RPM and remember its an automatic
3.I'm definitely planning to mod the car later down the track. Such as K&N typhoon air intake, full exhaust system and an aftermarket chip. Since i live down in Australia
tuners are hard to find in Australia (Melbourne). Do you guys know any tuners would export their goods down to Australia?
4.How much power can these 2.5L turbo motors handle with stock internals? what's the safest limit these motors can be tuned to before you need to consider aftermarket
parts? planning to aim for high 13s to mid 14s in my T5 later down the track.

Any help would be appreciated
Cheers

Well 7 pounds sounds like a LPT engine and the T5 is an HPT engine. So you should be running about 10 PSI.

As for tuners I am going to assume that most will help you out. Just will cost you some money and downtime possibly. Try RICA, IPD and or BSR. Those are the three companies I would go with.

As far as how much power they can handle. If they are anything like some older model Volvo's around 300Hp and then after that you need to start thinking about upgrading your internals.

1. I suggest you go do a baseline dyno with A/F ratios.

2. I suggest you take this car bone stock down the track and get a stock time.

3. Upgrade the intake an exhaust system first.

4. Get a second dyno with A/F ratios.

5. Send your ECU off with both sets of dyno information.

6. Re-install ECU or actually they might send you a unit.

7. Dyno again with A/F ratios.

8. Take her down the track again and get times. You may want to take her down the track after the intake and exhaust upgrades as well.

Thanks for the reply S70driver BTW sweet ride you got there!
Yeah my first mod i'm planning on doing to the car would be the K&N air filter + full ECU remap to maximize the stealth of the car. What ECU remap would you suggest? money shouldn't be an issue. Just want to maximize power, efficiency and RELIABILITY. Reliability is what i'm really after with a little better on 0-100 times and quarter miles, not expecting anything amazing.

I suggest before an ECU upgrade do a full exhaust upgrade.

3" downpipe to a 2.5" catback. Both mandrel bent. You will maximize your power this way. Especially when your running an ECU upgrade afterwards.

I suggest RICA, IPD, BSR for ecu tuners.

Your welcome bro. I noticed you asked about these cars launching off the line, you should get a good grip off the line with AWD. I am not sure if you have ever seen any of the Audi A4 AWD race cars launch from a stand still. The carsjust destroies the FWD cars because it can have all 4 tires gripping the pavement compared to two. Your going to love the AWD in the corners and tight manouvering. Prepare to smile ALOT more now...
