Default Oil seeping from cap

Hope I can get some help here with an issue that has been bugging me for a while. I have a 2004 V40 with 105K miles. At around 95K miles it started accumulating oil on the top of the valve covers. I initially thought the problem was the oil cap and replaced the seal and then put a new OEM cap, but the problem contintued.

So this weekend I replaced the whole PCV system (box and all hoses). But there is still oil leaking.. I don't know what else to try, anyone has a good lead?

See the picture below.. It seems pretty clear that the oil is coming from the cap.

Did you check your oil level, you may have to much oil?
after verifying the PCV and everything remove the cap and with the engine running check for pressure build up,you might have a valve sticking not tighten properly resulting in pressure to get in the valve cover

Replace the OEM cap seal with an IPD Viton cap seal.
OEM capseals leak constantly and need to be changed almost every oil change.
The IPD HD oil cap seal fits all Volvo 4 cylinder and 5 cylinder motors and will not leak. make sure you tell the mechanics to not throw it away when an oil change is performed.
Thanks Stan

richard- oil level is normal, akthough its close to the max. I chexhed for pressure buildup and there is none; i can actually feel the vaccuum if i put my hand over the opening. however my hand gets squirted with a lot of oil, looks like the oil is being sprayed in the direction of the cap.

Stan- thanks for validating that the ipd caps are better. i have been thinking about that but was afraid it was just a fancy looking cap..

thanks guys, your help is appreciated!

Actually,
I just bought the oil cap seal (gasket) not the cap.

We have the same issue we found it by changing the spark plugs and noticed they were covered in oil. So we got the oil out and bought a new cap thought that might fixed it. but it turns out we have an oil leak that is throwing the oil to the timing belt and back up. We have been told it will be an expensive fix but they have to take out the timing belt and such.

I find it hard to believe that the timing belt is throwing oil up in enough quantity to fill the spark plugs. I think it's the other way around, the oil is leaking to the top of the engine and when it accumulates enough it starts dripping on the timing belt (that's what happened on mine). This is dangerous as the oil lubricatoin can make the timing belt jump a few teeth and then your engine is gone.

You should clean the top of the engine completely and then open the hood and inspect after every drive until you see where the new oil is coming from. I bet it's either the cap or the breather tube that comes from the PCV.

Also make sure your PCV is working properly. Fixing the cap or other tube will just make the problem pop somewhere else if the PCV is bad. Do a search on this forum there are very good instructoins on how to determine if the PCV is bad.

Sounds like you have cam seals leaking. They will leak in the timing belt area and down the back side (drivers side) of the motor. I doubt they will leak enough to get oil in the spark plug chambers, that oil is likely from a clogged PCV system. Matter of fact, a clogged PCV system will blow your cam seals so, when that leak is fixed, better have the PCV system changed at the same time or you'll soon find another oil leak.

The only other way oil can get in those chambers is if the cam cover oil rings are bad and I have never seen that.

Fixing the oil leak is on our list to do next. We have had issues with this car since we bought it a year ago. In the week 3 weeks we have spent $900
