I hope one of you can help me with the following issue. The PNP-switch of my S40 1.9 from 1999 with automatic transmission has worn out, which results in the flashing arrow light on the dashboard and difficulties with accelerating. According to the mechanic the PNP-switch from 1999 has been discontinued (at least in the Netherlands). Online I can only find the part for cars from 2002 onwards. Would it be possible to fit a PNP-switch from a 2002 S40 in mine? Or are they specific products for the 1999 version?
Where are you located? the S40s didn't come to the states until 2000 but quite often the early models share parts with the prior years (in fact many of the S40 parts changed between 2000 and 2001). So you can try a few things - search for the Volvo PN for the 2000 model year across different markets (ie UK, Euro, US, Asia) or you can search for a used part from a breaker yard for a 1998/99. A few other things to try - does the PNP clean up with a "shifter row" (ie P to Lo to P 20x fast - engine off and key to position 1)? Have you tried reseating the TCM? not uncommon for the contacts to the TCM to get some corrosion over time.
That starter inhibitor switch only fits sv40 up to 2000. Googling that number finds switches with and without a short wiring harness - Which does the OP have? The switch with a short harness appears to be discontinued -
