Problem starting my 05 s40
I have an 2005 s40 T5 and I'm having a problem when starting the car. It seems to only happen when it's cold or after it rains. When I go to start the car it sounds like its trying to turn over, the lights on the dash turn on and then it stops and shuts down. Then I turn the key back and try again and then it fires up. It's happened about 10 times but hasent happend in a few days. Theres only about 21000 miles on it so I'm wondering why its acting up. If anybody has any suggestions, i'd really appreciate it.
Sounds like you're getting moisture in some part of the ignition system. When the air gets cool or cold, moisture condenses out of the air much faster than when the air temp is warm. This might be a tough one to duplicate when you bring it in. Does it happen after the engine gets warm even if the air temp is still cold? It should still be under warranty....i would definitely bring it to adealer or a good Volvo certified private mechanic and leave it overnight. Have them try and start it in the morning.
When the engine gets warm and I start my car it doesnt happen. But when its cool outside at night and I go to start my car it does it. I've been recording the sound of my engine with a tape recorder everytimeI start my car now so I can show the tech what it sounds like. It's been 90 degrees for the past few days though so it hasent happend again. I have to wait untill it rains or gets cooler.
