Basically, everytime I presse the radio/cd button, the loading screen with the car comes on and then disappears. Nothing happens.

I have a 2005 S40 with the 'premium audio' sound system. I was told by the mechanic that the fiber optics are blown and the whole unit needs to be replaced and reprogrammed which is a ~$1500 job. Is this true? Can I take it to a cheaper, non-volvo place?

Do the Climate Controls work?

 

Yes they work fine.

 

I should have been more specific. Does the screen which shows the radio and cd also show your climate controls readouts? (Fan speed, temp, etc) I ask because your first post made it seem as if the screen itself was dark. If the climate controls work then it may just be a screen issue. Just a guess as I haven't had to fight this issue yet.

I am a newbie. This is for Hudini----When I picked up this thread, it seemed to end with the reply that the screen works fine. I have a problem with my new to me 2005 V50 with radio issues. I hope he will pick up the previous thread and maybe point me to the answers to mine. Particularly, the procedure to reprogram a "new" control display to my existing electronics without needing to spend the minimum at the dealer to do a 2-minute fix to get them to match up.
