Default rear brake pad set

i just purchased a 2006 S40 (my first ever Volvo), and it needs its rear brake pads to be changed. the previous owner got a quote from the Volvo dealer for $180 for the job (parts+labor). is that reasonable?
also, i am thinking of buying an OEM rear brake pad set from a parts store online and bringing it to the dealer for them to change. do you know the part number for a rear brake pad set for 2006 S40 2.4i? also, anybody knows a good Volvo OEM parts store online?

thanks

Just so you know, aftermarket pads and rotors on Volvos seem to be extremely sensitive. I'd personally go with the OEM. You do need a special tool to install them though.

That price sounds pretty good for pads, rotors and labor. For parts alone you are looking at about $80 for the 2 rotors and another $50 for the pads.

yeah, i was planning to get OEM pads anyway. i won't change the rotors though. and i was not going to install them myself. the price i mentioned was for parts+labor from the dealer.
is there a Volvo parts store online that sells OEM parts? the ones i was able to find had aftermarket and OEM parts in the same store! is there a website that you enter your VIN and it shows only the parts for your vehicle?

thanks

bump?

Not long, you need a tool to spin the caliper back in, parts stores may loan them out to you. In florida?

How do you know the rotors need changing, just curious.

well, i'm not going to do the repair myself. i'm going to take it to either the Volvo dealer or my mechanic. i was just wondering if the quoted price by the dealer for parts (i.e. pads) + labor is good enough. so, no the rotors don't need to be changed.

so basically, i'm planning to use OEM parts. is there a Volvo parts store online that sells OEM parts? the ones i was able to find had aftermarket and OEM parts in the same store! is there a website that you enter your VIN and it shows only the parts for your vehicle?

Default Where to buy Brake Pads?

I too am looking to replace my rear brake pads again -- a second time in less than 5 years (why do they wear out so quickly on Volvos???).

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy OEM rear brake pads for a 2006 s40 T5?

I normally buy my engine oil filters at ipdusa.com, but I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience with brake pads from ipdusa.com or recommendations for other websites. Thanks in advance.

IPD sells good stuff. Also consider Hawk HPS pads. I switch to them and am very pleased with the performance, lack of dust, lack of noise and longevity.

I had to get new brake pads for the rear brakes and they cost me $80 plus labor at Tire Kingdom (Big 10 Tires is a partner company). That was with the $40 off coupon I printed from their website.

I know you mentioned you don't want to do the job yourself but I thought I'd mention that the special tool needed for the rear brake job can be loaned for free at O'Reilly or Autozone.
