Which rear brakes to go with?!
Whats up everybody?
The S40 I'm working on is my girlfriends. I do drive it often but we certainly do not take it to the track or anything like that. The most it sees is 85+mph on the highway. Anyway, we're not looking for performance as much as we are looking for a quiet set of pads. Any recommendations?
I THINK the current pads are Volvo. They are starting to squeak under use. They are the dustiest rear pads I've ever encountered. I notice other S40's around town also have dirty rear wheels yet the fronts seem to stay cleaner. WTF is up with that? I should also point out that this is the third set of rear pads on the car since she's had it - which has been about 35,000 miles. (the first set was on when she got it, they were replaced, then replaced again for defects)
Word.

I have an 04 s40, after quite some experience, I tell who ever i speak to to stay with OEM's. I have had quite some trouble with the fittings of aftermarket brands...it's your choice, but as far as performance, I truly do stand behind OEM brakes...
I have replaced my rear pads 3 times between 35k and 115k of ownership. Plus the rear rotors have deep grooves. In a very short time I am going with Brembo rotors and Akebono pads. I can say the OEM pads/rotors stop very well. The deep grooves (both front and back), the short life, and the thick brake dust have me wondering if I can do better.
