I give up. I must change the oil plan on my 2002 Volvo s40 for a new one. Getting Volvo original equipment oil pan is out of the question, because it is too expensive.

I must go to third party. What is a good third party oil pan for the Volvo s40 and where can I buy it? I saw several on Amazon a few months ago, but now they are gone.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

search for volvo part # 9189158 - $396 for genuine volvo at Tasca Parts, I saw a used part on eBay for $150. Search using that part number will get some hits. Curious why you need to change the pan. did it crack or get damaged or are you just having issues getting the pan to seal?

 

The oil pan did crack.. I am just afraid the seal the mechanic put on will not hold much longer. The whole thing began when the oil pan plug got its threads so buggered that the pan was virtually unrepairable except to seal it
like I did. The Volvo part seems good, but there must be an less expensive part that will do fine. The Volvo s40 is 17 years old.

I also want to add one of those plugs that makes it easier to drain and close the oil pan so it will never get buggered. I have seen several which is the best?

check out the used pan on ebay. The way to keep your plug from messing up the thread is to use a new crush washer and a torque wrench. I usually wipe out the threads after the oil has drained and put some fresh oil on the plug so its easy to hand tighten then tighten to spec.

 

So do not buy a new oil unless it is made by Volvo?

I go to all of fast serve lube places and frankly they are none too careful in removing the oil plug. Hence my problem.

I doubt if any after market vendors sell a replacement oil pan for the S40. Its not a high enough volume car and a typical replacement part. As to using fast serve lube places, I've never used one. I've either done my own or had the oil changed as part of a major servicing.
