Default Replacing brake pads and rotors

I am replacing all pads and brake rotors on my 2002 Volvo s40. I really do not want to use Volvo parts because they are too expensive. I think Bosch would be just fine, however, there seem to be so many different models of Bosch brake pads and rotors with so many that fit the 2002 Volvo s40, so how do I make a choice?

I just want Bosch brake rotors and pads, they should be Bosch, but the model or type , I am not sure.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've used the Bosch brake parts with good results - and if you shop at a Volvo friendly online store like FCPEuro or EEuroparts you'd see the appropriate fitting parts. The thing to understand is the nuances between the materials used in the brake pads. Volvo OEM are "organic" materials which are the softest - to give a very progressive feel and good bite when cold - great for around town driving, but tend to throw off a lot of dust and wear faster than other materials. Bosch pads tend to be semi-metallic, which are firmer, wear longer and work better at temperature. Final choice is ceramic pads. They offer the least amount of dust, best fade resistance (ie when the brake pads get very hot - say driving in the mountains ) but are firmest feel and have less bite when cold. So, I think your choice is really about your driving needs and style. If you like OEM, consider Pagid. Bosch offers both regular pads and "quietcast" which is essentially their own pads with a backing glued onto the pads to minimize squeal - kind of like what the shims do to isolate the pad from the caliper to reduce noise.

I have never hear of Bosch quietcast pads. I guess they must be pretty good.

Who sells those?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the northeast, so I shop FCPEuro and EEuroparts (both right here in Connecticut) who carry Bosch brake parts. You can also find them on eBay and Amazon stores.
