S40 A/C Question
Hello All,
My 2006 S40 needs an a/c repair. Through the forums, I have determined that the problem is a compressor clutch. I got an estimate for about $1200 for what I thought was a new compressor, but now the repair shop tells me that it is to rebuild my compressor. Does this sound reasonable? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks/Mama Bear

Do a search for shimming the compressor clutch. It seems by simply removing a shim or 2 you can restore normal operation. I've never attempted this myself.
Also RockAuto lists a reman compressor with clutch at $305 and a new one at $409. $1200 is quite steep IMHO. Replacing your compressor does require servicing the A/C system so there will be extra costs involved if you go this route but not $1200 worth.
