S40 Hard to Start

My 2003 S40 occasionally will not start right away. Turn the key once or twice and all you hear is a clicking noise. Try it one more time and it starts. Problem was not all that frequent at first, now it is becoming more common and it doesn't matter if the car is being started cold or hot.
I've read where one of the problems could be the park/neutral switch (also called the PNP switch?). Not a cheap item at about $200.
Where is the switch? How hard is it to get to this item? Do I have to put it on a rack to get to it?
Thanks.

Does not sound like a switch, but I'm not sure.
It is on the transmission, right on top, where all the shifter cables turn, but you will have to move some stuff to get to it. There are special tools by VOLVO to set it up and that may, not usually, be your problem where it's just not calibrated right.

that almost sounds like my daughters car.
it started very infrequent. at the end it would not start at all.
i replaced the MAF, cleaned the Idle air valve and replaced the fuel pressure regulator. now it runs like a charm.
from a woman who does only know in theory how to change a tire lol
