S40 no start
My future brother in law asked me to fix his 2006 S40. The problem started with an overheating problem then died. When I got the car, I saw that the timing belt was off the cams, not good. So I started with removing the head to see if there was any other damage. I sent the head out to a machine shop and they told me the head was badly warped, but repairable, also 2 bent exhaust valves. I got the head back, replaced the water pump,(which was the culprit for the overheating) timing belt and pulleys. put it all back together, and started right up. It ran for 15 seconds and shut off. Replaced the spark plugs, intake cam sensor, and crank sensor. still getting codes for the two sensors that were replaced and still no start. Anyone have any ideas? Could I have a bad ECM?
Check your fuses. A blown fuel pump fuse has caused more headaches than you would think.
Check the battery voltage. These cars hate low voltage.
If that checks then check for spark. A nice electric blue arc on the plugs, not white or yellow.
If that checks then dig a bit deeper with fuel pressure checks and compression checks.
The ECM hardly ever fails. Like never. Unless you hook the battery up backwards... It's probably something simple like the fuel pressure sensor came loose.
