I've finally figured out what has been driving me insane with my 2006 v50 on the highway. there was a squeaky rattling noise coming from the back of the car. I finally ripped apart the rear tailgate and realized it vibrates like crazy. my creative solution to this was fill the tailgate panel with about 20 walmart bags crinkled up then replace the broken panel clips. its been quiet ever since

 

Those panel clips are maddening. However, they can be gleaned from junkers for free, or purchased new from folks like Tascaparts for moderate costs.

Once brought back to original status, make sure to line them up carefully before snapping them home.
