starting issues 2002 volvo s40!?!?
Hi everyone,
Have just joined up as i have recently purchased a 2002 volvo s40 2L petrol. Love the car, looks great and is very comfortable. The problem is, is that i had issues regarding the car starting over the few months i've had it. At first the symptoms were like those in alot of posts that i have looked at ( starting fine when cold and then after a short trip would have to crank for longer to start , as if car was choking trying to start, not getting the right dosage of petrol if that makes sense). but then one day after not driving it for a day or two it wouldnt start atall even from cold. I could try for atleast 15/20 secs cranking but no joy. So i took it a mechanic who got it going and sais the problem was the fuel pump. So i understood this to be true as i knew my fuel gauge wasnt working so i thought the pump must be on it's way out too. So i decided to get a 2nd hand pump just incase it would go again and i could do the change myself. So eventually it has happened again ,so i replaced the pump and the gauge is now working but the car is still not starting. So i done a power check from the socket that connects to the pump and there is no power flow getting to it. I have checked all fuses in car and engine and all seem fine. Is there anything else it could be as i know that it cant be down to broken wiring as it was going before and broke and going again. Thanks, any ideas would be very welcome.

just got a diagnostics test done and the reading was, faulty cam shaft sensor, so i have to wait a couple of days till i get the new one. Will let you know what the outcome is ok.
I'm having similar problems with an '02 S40, it's taking significantly more cranking to start than it used to. I didn't think it could be a fuel pump issue because once it starts it runs fine. Any suggestions?
