Default Tire size

I have a 2004 S40 1.9T and need some new tires. I bought the car used with 215/55/16 on the original BBS rims. When I go to some tire websites they say that the stock tire was 215/50/16. If that is the case what does it change anything to have the extra height in the tire? Should I go with the original size?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The change is negligible. The extra height will add a teeny bit extra cushion I guess...

You are asking about the speedometer and odometer accuracy right?

Specs on Volvo web site show tire size on base model: 195/60/15

Upgrade on base - standard on LSE: 215/50/16

I was actually curious about what I read in the manual at one point. It said something about using the correct size or you start to throw off the stability or something like that. I just wasn't sure if Volvo's were finicky about that kind of difference in tires. I think I will go with the 50 series anyway for a smaller profile of a tire.

I would like to get some 18"s eventually, but I will have to settle with the 16"bbs for now.

Thanks for the help!

The manufacturer has to say that or they may have legal issues if something bad happens if it the fault of the wrong size tire or not.

It will throw your speedometer & odometer off a little.
