Unexplained coolant loss
My girl has a 2000 V40, early edition built 11/99. It seems like it was taken to the dealership for most everything. It's got around 130k on it but still runs strong. One day I noticed the temp was almost to redline got it home and found it was nearly a gallon low on coolant. I filled it and started keeping an eye on it and I need to add some at least once a week. There's no puddle or dripping, no white smoke from the exhaust no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. Any ideas where it could be going and how to fix it?

Agree that a pressure test is the best next step, but there are a few common fault areas 1) upper radiator hoses tend to leak at the overflow tank connection 2) check around the bottom of the overflow tank - hoses/small cracks etc can leak under pressure 3) any signs of deposits on the sides of the radiators by the fin/side seams 4) any odd sweet smell when the heat first comes on suggesting a slow leak by the heater core? Also when you refill after doing repairs did you open the air bleed valve to make sure you didn't leave air in the system?
