The dealer tells that both rear wheel hub assemblies are broken, and that the warrantee won't cover the fix. The quote from the Volvo Dealer is $1,200. How do I know if they are trying to rip me off? Is that a part that should be covered or not? The car is a 2006 S40, 42,000 miles, no accidents, nothing.

Hmm...I'm not too familiar with wheel assembly's, but with a quick google search I found this website that sells them. Of course a dealership is going to charge a lot (because of labor and they want to make some money). If you have a local mechanic, I would try and get an estimate from him.
